Agile: Who's Doing What? And ... Is It Working?
I just noticed last week that Forrester is doing a new Agile adoption survey; we are looking forward to comparing their findings to our 2018 study, The Adaptive Organization. Meanwhile, in preparing the presentation I will be co-presenting with our PM Solutions Research editor-in-chief at the upcoming PMI Global Conference, I am conducting a fascinating series of interviews with project management leaders in organizations that are implementing agile and adaptive approaches. The centerpiece of our presentation will be video clips of these interviews, which focus on the fascinating and surprising findings from our adaptive study. I don't think any of us expected to find that, when it comes to agility, it doesn't really matter what methods, techniques or tools you use. Instead, it's all about the "soft" stuff: communication, change readiness, learning.
As someone who works in the training field, I am excited to find out just how crucial training and development is to developing organizational agility. But, as always, I am looking for ways to communicate that message to the upper echelons of organizations. It is so easy to get distracted by technology solutions, or methodology "silver bullets." Our interview series is not yet complete, but I think our practitioner videos will show the way over some of these speed bumps in the agile adoption process. Mark your calendars for Saturday; October 5 at 3 pm and we hope to see you at the PMI Global Conference in our hometown, Philadelphia!
