Program Management (Simulation Course)

Program Management is an advanced computer-based simulation workshop designed to develop skills of program managers, portfolio managers, and project managers who must manage multiple projects, programs, and on-going work with limited resources.

The simulation is a case study in which a company, Miller Global, is engaged in a multi-year Technology Renewal Program. The program includes projects in product development, infrastructure upgrades, IT systems changes, construction and remodeling, technology improvements, and other on-going work. Participants manage the program for 15 months, as projects are initiated, others are closed, and on-going work comes and goes. They must focus on the program, learning to prioritize projects based on stakeholder input and feedback, financial measures, business requirements, and other benefits promised by the projects.

Key performance indicators go beyond the usual time, cost, and scope, to include stakeholder needs and acceptance, key benefits analysis and tracking, coordination with other programs and projects, and the balancing of key resources utilized by several projects in the program.  This workshop is for experienced project managers who are well-grounded in the Project Management Institute's (PMI)® PMBOK® Guide, and who currently use Project Charter documents, Work Breakdown Structures, Network Diagrams, Bar Charts, Key Performance Indicators, and formal Risk Management Plans in their daily work.
