This is one of our most frequently asked questions: "What's the difference between the two Project Management Essentials courses?" At a high-level, it's pretty straightforward: the three-day PM Essentials has three areas of added content.

Managing Change

  • Identify components of a project baseline
  • Elements of a change management process
  • Determine strategies for handling change requests
Stakeholder Management

  • Identify your project stakeholders
  • Analyze their influence on your project
Monitoring and controlling project outcomes

  • Discuss the technical and human resource aspects of monitoring and controlling
  • Identify the decision-making process
  • Recognize the reasons for conflict on projects
  • Determine the appropriate method of conflict resolutions

The remaining differences are scattered throughout the course, and are more matters of emphasis than omission.

  • For example, our discussion of the project life cycles expands to also discuss phases and process groups.
  • A related section on the purpose of project management goes into more detail about how ongoing operations are different from projects.
  • Finally, students in the three-day course do case study work on applying risk management techniques.
